旧福特车厂的前身为福特车行在东南亚的第一家组装厂，受二战影响，车厂于1941年12月被英军征地为空军与军事基地。然而1942年2月13日，日军顺利登陆新加坡西部后，被日军充作为指挥总部。经历了激烈的战斗，英军于1942年2月15日在此宣布对日本无条件投降。
