舊福特車廠的前身為福特車行在東南亞的第一家組裝廠，受二戰影響，車廠於1941年12月被英軍征地為空軍與軍事基地。然而1942年2月13日，日軍順利登陸新加坡西部後，被日軍充作為指揮總部。經歷了激烈的戰鬥，英軍於1942年2月15日在此宣布對日本無條件投降。
